Coming up next Tuesday. Dr. Mōri Yoshitaka (毛利嘉孝) from Tokyo University of the Arts will be giving a talk at CCSCA titled “Politics of Refusal in J-Pop: Anonymity, Social Withdrawal, and the Paradox of Platform Capitalism”. All welcome.

Speaker’s bio:
Dr. Mōri Yoshitakais Professor of Sociology, Cultural Studies and Media Studies at Tokyo University of the Arts. Born in 1963. BA in Economics (Kyoto University), MA in Media and Communications and Ph.D. in Sociology (Goldsmiths College, University of London). His research interests are postmodern culture, media, contemporary art, the city and transnationalism. His publications include, Banksy, Kobunsha, 2019, Sutorīt no Shisō (The Philosophy in the Streets) NHK Publications, 2009 and Popyurā Ongaku to Shihonshugi (Popular Music and Capitalism) Serica Shobō, 2005/2012 (in Japanese) and “J-Pop Goes the World: A New Global Fandom in the Age of Digital Media” Made in Japan: Studies in Popular Music, T. Mitsui (Ed), Routledge, 2014, and “New Collectivism, Participation and Politics after the East Japan Great Earthquake”, World Art, Routledge/Taylor & Francis, 5/2, 2015, “Culture=Politics: The Emergence of New Cultural Forms of Protest in the age of Freeter” Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, vol.6 No.1, Routledge: London, pp.17-29, 2005 (in English). 專題講者介紹:Mōri Yoshitaka 毛利 嘉孝
1963年生,毛利嘉孝博士是東京藝術大學社會學、文化研究與媒體研究的教授,為京都大學經濟學學士、倫敦大學金匠學院媒體與行銷碩士以及社會學博士,研究興趣包含後現代文化、媒體、當代藝術,以及城市與跨國主義。其著作包含《班克斯》(Banksy)(光文社,2019)、《街道上的哲學》(NHK,2009)、《流行音樂與資本主義》(せりか書房,2005/2012) 、〈J-Pop前進世界:數位媒體時代的新全球粉絲國度〉(J-Pop Goes the World: A New Global Fandom in the Age of Digital Media,收錄於三井徹所編著之《日本製造:流行音樂研究》(Made in Japan: Studies in Popular Music,Routledge,2014),以及〈東日本大地震後的新集體主義、參與和政治〉(New Collectivism, Participation and Politics after the East Japan Great Earthquake,收錄於《世界藝術》(World Art),Routledge/Taylor & Francis,5/2輯,2015)、〈文化=政治:飛特族時代新抗爭文化的興起〉(Culture=Politics: The Emergence of New Cultural Forms of Protest in the age of Freeter,收錄於《亞際文化研究》(Inter-Asia Cultural Studies)第6期第1輯,Routledge:倫敦,頁17-29,2005)、《流行音樂與資本主義 修訂版》中文版已由上海社會科學院出版社發行。

[CCSCA Event] Art Writing and Criticism Workshop by Brian Kuan Wood

Coming up Wednesday this week. Brian Kuan Wood will be giving a talk at CCSCA on his role as founding editor of the e-flux journal and co-curator of the upcoming 2023 Taipei Biennial.
Wednesday 15th March 10:00-12:00 in Room Y703.
Brian Kuan Wood is a writer based in New York, and an editor of e-flux’s monthly journal and book series. Since 2015, he has taught at the MA Curatorial Practice program at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he has been Director of Research. He is co-curator of the 2023 Taipei Biennial.

Coming up on Friday this week. Jori Snels from the University of Amsterdam will be giving a talk titled ‘Avatars, Bots, and Cyborgs: An Introduction to Chinese Digital Art’.

Digital technologies like the internet, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality are changing our everyday lives as well as the way we think about ourselves and the way we relate to others and the world. In this lecture I will introduce the work of several Chinese artists who use digital art either to reflect on how digital technology is affecting our present, or to produce speculative imaginations of the future. I will discuss work by some of the key Chinese artists in this field, such as Cao Fei, Lu Yang, Miao Ying, aaajiao, and others. The lecture will also highlight how these artists experiment with various digital media and with aesthetics adopted from digital cultures.

About the Artist:
Andreas Walther, born 1971 in Germany, lives and works in between the cultures of the West and the Far East since1998. He is interested in artistic questions within this context and references Shanshui painting and calligraphy as well as ideas from the fields of media theory, philosophy of perception, and Taoism. His works are exhibited in both parts of the world and represented in public and private collections.
About the Curator:
Leo C. Chen, graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages at National Taiwan University, and received his PhD in Cinema and Media Studies from UCLA. He is a professor at Kyoto University Art and Design and University of Minnesota, USA. His research papers have been published in international journals and newspapers such as the New Left Review. He was involved in the production of the Hollywood film director Gus Van Zant’s Psycho , the Japanese director Hayashi Kaisho, as well as Edward Yang’s Terrorizers and Yi Yi , as assistant director and scriptwriter. His curatorial exhibitions include “’S WANDERFUL│Making Pictures-Steve McCurry Solo Exhibition” in MoCA Taipei.
