Digital technologies like the internet, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality are changing our everyday lives as well as the way we think about ourselves and the way we relate to others and the world. In this lecture I will introduce the work of several Chinese artists who use digital art either to reflect on how digital technology is affecting our present, or to produce speculative imaginations of the future. I will discuss work by some of the key Chinese artists in this field, such as Cao Fei, Lu Yang, Miao Ying, aaajiao, and others. The lecture will also highlight how these artists experiment with various digital media and with aesthetics adopted from digital cultures.
