In-between creation and curation
From time to time we encounter exhibitions that are curated by artists. The perspectives these shows open up are often uncommon as curating artists often approach their colleagues‘ works according to the process of creation and its particular quality. Even though uncommon, this often can open up a helpful perspective on the nature of artistic creation and the artistic work process.
Andreas Walther and Thomas Vinson both are artists who curate exhibitions from time to time. Thomas is artistic co-dirctor of Kunstverein Mücke art space in Germany, where he repeatedly shows works of mostly European artists in solo shows. Andreas occasionally curates for Neuer Kunstverein Gießen, Germany, but also for other institutions also in Taiwan, since 2003 in the context of intercultural dialogue between Europe and Asia. In their common presentation on Wed, September 25th, both will briefly introduce to their own artistic work, and on this basis reflect on their core experience with curation by presenting a few of the exhibitions they curated in the past.
