The CCSCA Research Forum is a crucial component of the “Independent Research” course. Its main purpose is to provide students with a platform to present their works-in-progress, while inviting relevant experts and scholars to serve as respondents who offer feedback, allowing students to further develop their theses.

On September 15, CCSCA students and NTUE exchange students joined Professor Nobuo Takamori for an inspiring walk through Xinzhuang's Temple Street and Business Circle
2026 | CCSCA new students visited alumna La Benida Hui
CCSCA new students visited alumna La Benida Hui, currently an artist-in-residence, at Badou Elementary School in Keelung. Her project “Weaving Ocean Dreams” is presented in two parts: Part 1 at the National Museum of Marine Science & Technology and Part 2 at Badou Elementary School. The project is part of the school’s long-term environmental learning programme.
The trip offered our students an opportunity to explore how art can work within an educational setting by connecting creative practice with environmental learning for children.

2026 | Transcolonial Horizons: The Archipelagic as Curatorial Method
Many thanks to Carlos Quijon, Jr. for giving a talk titled "Transcolonial Horizons: The Archipelagic as Curatorial Method" on October 9.
In the talk, Carlos conceptualized the "archipelagic" not merely as a geographic fact, but as a dispersive disposition and curatorial method. Drawing from art exhibitions across Southeast Asia, New York, and Hong Kong, he also explored how archipelagos foster lateral, transcolonial affinities that disrupt rigid nation-state and vertical imperial narratives.
By examining minor histories—ranging from labor migration and meteorological networks to migrating deities and regional media—the archipelagic framework offers alternative geopolitical imaginaries, highlighting assemblies and connections born out of dispersal, friction, and historical entanglement.

2026 | CCSCA CCSCA Annual Research Forum
The CCSCA Annual Research Forum 2026 opened with the keynote lecture, “A Meditation on the Oblique”, by Susie Lingham. Thank you, Susie, for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and reflections with us. Your lecture offered much inspiration to our students, who are developing their practices as curators, researchers and artists.
Our sincere thanks to the seven students who presented their work-in-progress projects. Congratulations on reaching this important stage in your research journey. Research is always a process, and we look forward to seeing how your projects continue to develop in the months ahead.
Special thanks to Gesyada Siregar and Anita Bonit for leading the engaging session “The Practice of Gudskul”, which offered valuable insights into collective learning and artistic practice.
Special thanks as well to our first-year students for giving us a glimpse into their projects-in-progress. These secret projects will unfold next semester, so stay tuned for what is to come!

2026 | Esther Lu Curatorial Workshop
Special thanks to independent curator Esther Lu for leading a generous and insightful curatorial workshop. She walked us through her curatorial approach in depth, discussing how an exhibition is conceived, carefully planned, and gradually developed through a series of workshops that help shape its direction and outcomes.
One highlight of the session was a simple yet engaging workshop she designed, encouraging students to reflect on their own skills and consider what roles they might take on within an exhibition. Through this exercise, students were also invited to think about curatorial practice across different contexts, gaining a more flexible and dynamic understanding of what curating can be.
2026 | Fei Wu Curatorial Workshop
Many thanks to Fei Wu for leading a curatorial workshop for the Exhibition Practice class on March 13.
In the workshop, Fei Wu explored how healing might be rethought in a traumatized world through “being together” and relationships of exchange. Drawing on the concept of munus, both a gift and an obligation, the workshop emphasized the dynamics of giving and losing, rather than possession.
Through a series of questions, participants were invited to reflect on collective cultural “dis-ease,” the potential for art to respond to such conditions, and the ways personal emotions and beliefs intertwine. The workshop ultimately opened up a shared, collaborative space for connection, while inviting further reflection on what kinds of feelings and practices healing can hold.

2026 | Independent Curator Esther Lu Speech
Many thanks to independent curator Esther Lu (呂岱如) for her sharing in the Global Biennial course on April 7.
Drawing from her own visits to both exhibitions, Esther compared the 2025 Bukhara Biennale and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, highlighting how such exhibitions are rarely established for cultural purposes alone, but are often intertwined with political, economic, and geopolitical agendas. Through selected artworks and curatorial approaches, she guided us in exploring how these large-scale exhibitions reflect cultural tourism, urban development, and broader global dynamics, while articulating different “worlds” through their curatorial visions.

2024｜CCSCA Research Forum
CCSCA will be hosting its annual Research Forum on 22-23 May 2024 at the Museum of NTUE (MoNTUE).
The CCSCA Research Forum will delve into emerging ecologies of art and exhibition-making in East and Southeast Asia by probing the varied pathways and geometry of ideas and practice in the region. It will examine curatorial and artistic engagements with history and the historiographies of art, and reflect on the currencies accrued by the categories of ‘region’ and ‘nation’ as they are interpellated in the history of exhibitions in Asia and beyond.
The Research Forum will feature keynote addresses by Pamela Nguyen Corey (Associate Professor, Fullbright University, Vietnam) and David Teh (Associate Professor, National University Singapore), roundtable discussions with scholars, curators and artists from Taiwan, as well as work-in-progress presentations by CCSCA students.
2024｜Cultural Exchange week with Tokyo University of the Arts-Global Art
From November 20 to 22, students took part in a three-day seminar held by the visiting professor Fumihiko Sumitomo. In the seminar, students explored the historical context of contemporary Asian art, emphasizing the connections beyond national boundaries and showcasing the distinctive artistic expressions of each region within the global art scene. In these three day, students also visited visited the exhibitions at Hong Foundation and Taipei Fine Art Museum.
