Future Unfolding

CCSCA is pleased to welcome Abby Chen, Head of Contemporary Art and Curator at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, who will share her curatorial insight and experience through a talk titled Future Unfolding, taking place on October 27 (Mon.), 13:30–17:00 at MoNTUE 1st Floor.

Abby Chen is Head of Contemporary Art and Curator at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, where she has led its Transformation project since 2019. Her curatorial debut commissioned large-scale public works by Asian American women artists and secured major acquisitions, including the largest collection of Bernice Bing alongside works by Carlos Villa and Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. She curated Kongkee: Warring States Cyberpunk (2023) and launched the Practice Institute to reimagine museum practices for evolving artist communities. In 2024, she curated the Taiwan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale and co-curated the American Pavilion at the Gwangju Biennale. Recipient of the 2024 NAEA Distinguished Art Educator Award, Chen’s experimental practice explores intersections of race, gender, sexuality, migration, and technology across the U.S. and Asia.

Previously, she was Curator and Artistic Director at San Francisco’s Chinese Culture Center, transforming it into an internationally recognized platform for contemporary art.
