Curation in Japan's Art Museums: Present, Past, and Future
TARO AMANO is curator in chief of Tokyo Opera city Art Gallery since 2021. Member of Association Internationale des Critiques d`Art.
He had also served as Chief Curator of the Yokohama Museum of Art (1986-2015), Curator of the 2005 Yokohama Triennale, Head of the Curatorial Team of the 2001 and 2014 Yokohama Triennales and Assistant Curator of the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art (1982-1986).
General Director in Chief of the Sapporo International Art Festival 2020 since 2018.
Amano has organized numerous exhibitions and has contributed essays to the following catalogues: Japanese Art after 1945: Scream against the Sky (94), Robert Frank: Moving Out(95), Morimura Yasumasa, The Sickness unto Beauty - Self-portrait as Actress （97）, Louise Bourgeois : HOMESICKNESS (97), Yoshitomo Nara (01), Black Out: An Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Photography (organized by the Japan Foundation) (02), and Non-Sect Radical: Contemporary Photography III, Teppei KANEUJI: Melting City / Empty Forest(09), Takamine Tadasu:Too Far To See(11), Kanagawa Shingo: long interval of time(18), Roppongi Crossing2022(Mori Art Museum 2022-23).
